As an interior design enthusiast, I am thrilled that I have been seeing so many interior design based apps emerge. Since my personal FBI agent knows what’s up, every once and a while I stumble across a promoted advertisement on Instagram that is endorsing another interior design app. I have been attempting to try them all out as I come cross them.
App developers have been coming up with great ways to integrate technology and interior design which has been helping companies disrupt the industry. When you first think of the concept of an interior design app, you probably imagine something like Houzz, which is an app where you can shop for new furniture and get design inspiration. Having an informative interior design app is a pretty basic concept, so I am impressed that app developers like Storm8 Studios are stepping up to the challenge by combining design elements along with an interactive game.
Home Design Makeover! by Storm8 Studios has honestly been my new obsession. Home Design Makeover! gives you the chance to live your dream as a big time interior designer. Your goal is to transform your client’s dull space into their dream home. The game starts off by designing your client Rachel Diaz’s living room; after you complete each space you unlock a new client. For every room you design you are provided a blueprint, from following the blueprint you can customize your design by selecting your preferred style. Each element in your design has 3 different options to choose from. For example, the living room includes a couch so you can choose from a grey, white, or blue couch. Each element in your design also has a different price. You start off the game with ($$$) but once you run out you have to earn your coins by playing a match 3 puzzle game.
The game quickly impressed me by the graphics and the overall concept of the game. The images are very detailed and every blueprint incorporates an impressive general design. I loved that a match 3 puzzle was included in the game, it is the key component that makes the game addicting. I also appreciated that they provided a diverse group of clients (they could have added a couple more minority clients but I do applaud them for including some). I was most excited to see that Home Design Makeover! isn’t one of those apps where you have to make in-app purchases to enjoy the game. You do have the option to buy diamonds which help you utilize the power-ups in the match 3 game, but overall you don’t have to buy anything to fully enjoy the game.
The only complaint I have for the app is that it takes quite a long time to complete each space because it is difficult to earn money. Each element is around $800-$2000 and each match 3 level can only get you around $900. So some designs may take a few days to complete depending on how good you are at match 3 games and how much time you spend playing a day. The levels do increase in difficulty and new aspects are added as you go along, it definitely can get challenging.
Overall, if you weren’t a Candy Crush fan, this probably isn’t the game for you. But, it is a great addicting game that gives you a glimpse on the fun of interior design.
