Since this is my first time actually designing a space for a client, I truly have no idea what I am doing. This will be an opportunity for me to learn hands on and it will help me develop a methodology for project management for future projects. Conquering ambiguity is both exciting and nerve racking for this process as I would like to end up being successful this being my first project that will help me establish credibility.
New apartments are exciting because you can get really creative to help maximize your space. Since this will be Trè’s first place it is really important to establish his home style.
- Define his Home Style
The first step to this project will be to get to know Trè including his wants and needs in an apartment and his design style. Since I do not have the privilege of being with Trè physically and being able to take him to furniture stores or look through magazines I decided to create an inspiration board on Pinterest to help get a better idea of what he would like to see in his new place.
2. Establish a Budget
The next step and challenge I face is determining a budget for this project. Unfortunately, Trè didn’t provide me a specific budget to follow. Since he didn’t provide a budget I believe it would be best practice to create a plan for 2 options: a low budget plan and a high budget plan. This way, it will give Trè some options to choose from and will help him come to a better conclusion to how much he is planning on spending. One thing I have noticed when it comes to interior design is a lot of people aren’t aware of how much things costs, so it would be good to provide both options.
3. Assess the Space
The biggest challenge I will face here is not having the ability to physically assess the space and see what I am working with. It is very difficult to design a space when you have no idea of how much room you have and what will work with the feng shui of the place. The best way for me to do this is to study all pictures and videos I have of the apartment and also request some dimensions I can use for an additional resource.
