Now that my first design project has come to an end, I really wanted to document this journey and do my final reflections on this overall experience. Now I had a lot of fun with this project, it definitely came with a lot of challenges but I feel like this experience proved to me that this is where I am supposed to be and this is one of my talents. I remember on one of the visits to Ashley’s Home Store, the saleswoman asked me if I wanted a job at Ashley’s; she was so impressed about me knowledge on all things furniture and said I was more qualified than some of the people that currently worked there. This comment really resonated with me and made me believe that this was the right space for me.
Some of my highlights of this experience was definitely the actual design process and when I came up with 3 design options for Tré. At the time, I recently had discovered a tool in Powerpoint which basically was a beginner photoshop where I can easily remove the background from images. When I learned this trick I was super excited to curate some designs for Tré on powerpoint. I was extremely into this process and completed all the designs in one sitting because I was so in the zone. This made me really excited and I would be interested in looking into some other design tools, maybe some 3D design software in the future.
I also really enjoyed furniture shopping as mentioned, but this wasn’t a surprise to me. Ever since I was a child I always loved joining my parents on furniture shopping trips or even trips to Home Depot.
The biggest challenge for me was definitely determining Tré’s budget since he didn’t really give me one. I predicted that this was going to come bite me in the ass and I was definitely right as I had to scrap all of my designs because they were too expensive. I was definitely discouraged from this, I had felt like I had wasted so much time and effort into those designs. But when I sat back and thought about it, it all was a really good learning experience for future projects: NEVER START A PROJECT WITHOUT A SET AGREED UPON BUDGET.
Overall, this was an amazing and humbling experience and I can’t wait to do it again and again.
